Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his position after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
âI feel secure, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from the top,â Slot stated.
âIt would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that people question you.â
He noted, âI accept my position. This isn't the initial instance Iâve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.â
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
âWe talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.â
He added, âThrough standard discussions I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.â
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his team in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the clubâs predicament.
âI donât have the solutions. Frankly, I donât. I'm telling that to everybody,â the midfielder remarked.
âIt's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just donât have the phrases.â
He added, âIt's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and Iâve seen Liverpool all my life.â
âFor many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with performances this poor.â
Jones stated, âHowever we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, weâre always going to compete.â
âWe will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the world.â
âAt this moment, things are bad and it must improve.â
