Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:
- Each team has only 8 real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for gamers seeking different ways to enjoy the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Community Responses: From Fury to Support
"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another lists everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
